(UPDATED) Fatal accident closes Rt. 2 westbound in Erie County

Monday 12:30 PM – The Ohio Highway Patrol identified the two people killed in Monday morning’s accident that closed Route 2 in Erie County as 49-year-old Largo Frye of Huron and 80-year-old Melvin Brough of Oak Harbor. Troopers are still working to determine what caused Brough to cross the median and into oncoming traffic, where he collided head-on with Frye’s vehicle. Both men died at the scene.

ERIE COUNTY – Breaking News this Monday morning – the Erie County Sheriff’s Office says Route 2 westbound is closed following a fatal car crash around 5 am. There is no timetable for the highway to reopen.

Deputies and the Ohio Highway Patrol are rerouting traffic at the Rye Beach exit.

They say to expect delays and find an alternate route when possible.
